About Us

Equine Assisted Education

Mini Lessons EAE, LLC is geared towards students in grades preschool through middle school. Students are paired with miniature horses in a small group setting. Class size is limited to six students. Lessons are created with an emphasis on literacy and math, but the students and horses drive what we do in each class.

Fáilte Farm - Fáilte is Irish for Welcome!

My name is Jane Stier. I am the owner and founder of Mini Lessons EAE, LLC. I was an elementary school teacher in Illinois and Minnesota until the birth of my three children kept me busy at home. When my youngest went off to kindergarten, I returned to education by working as a paraprofessional in early childhood special education and later as a lead teacher at a nature-based preschool. My lifelong love for animals and educating children, led me to pursue certifications in both Animals and Human Health and Horse Powered Reading®. In the fall of 2020, I took the leap into creating my dream job of teaching math, literacy and social/emotional skills with horses as my co-teachers. I involve horses in large motor math and literacy activities with students who may struggle with those subjects. While traditional classroom learning works for many students, I believe that working with animals offers many ways to engage children, making learning more fun. I am a firm believer in the human-animal bond, in which building a relationship with another species is good for the soul. Fáilte Farm, located in River Falls, Wisconsin, is the culmination of many years of dedication and hard work in order to provide a permanent home for the horses and the program. My family and I are thrilled to invite you to our farm, where we always hope you feel welcome!

How it works

Horse Powered Reading® integrates social-emotional learning with academics; thus allowing students see and experience reading with their entire mind, body and emotions by creating metaphors for the skills involved in reading.

Students interact with horses from the ground, while using toys and props to identify obstacles and learn five critical reading skills - phonemic awareness, decoding, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension

    Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at jane@minilessons.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Our programs are designed with an emphasis on literacy and math. However, we take every opportunity to incorporate science, social studies, and social/emotional learning as those instances arise.

No, all of the interactions between students and horses are done on the ground. Your student will be learning about horses and horse behavior through hands on activities.

Our horses have been selected for the program based on goodness of fit, meaning they each have demonstrated a willingness to participate with a calm demeanor. That being said, horses, like any animal, can cause injury with or without meaning to. The wellbeing of all participants is our highest priority.

I am happy to discuss individual options for adults. Please contact me.
